Uganda Visa
Turkish citizens travel to Uganda with an e-visa applied for online. Fees, documents, steps and stay rules from official sources in one guide.
About this route
This guide covers the official Uganda entry process for Turkey passport holders: required documents, the application steps, and where our optional support fits in.
Do Turkey citizens need a visa for Uganda?
Yes, Turkish citizens travelling to Uganda must obtain a visa. Uganda does not grant any visa exemption to Turkish passport holders, and entry is through the electronic permit (e-Visa) system.
This is also clear from the fact that Türkiye is not on the official list of visa-exempt countries of Uganda's Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control. Although the list includes neighbouring countries such as Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania, Türkiye is not part of this group.
What Is the Uganda Electronic Visa System? Are Turkish Citizens Covered?
Since 2016, Uganda has fully digitised applications for citizens of all countries subject to a visa. The system runs at www.visas.immigration.go.ug, and every stage of the application (filling in the form, uploading documents, payment) is carried out online. Turkish citizens are fully covered by this mandatory electronic application.
When applying on the system, you first select the visa category. According to the Uganda Directorate of Immigration, the categories are as follows:
- Ordinary Visa: For single-entry trips such as tourism, business, family visits or study
- Multiple-Entry Visa: Multiple entry valid for 6, 12 or 24 months for frequent travellers to Uganda
- Diplomatic and Official Visa: For holders of diplomatic and service passports
- Transit Visa: For those passing through the country to another destination
- East Africa Tourist Visa: For those who want to travel around Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda on a single visa
For most Turkish citizens travelling for tourism, the most common option is the single-entry tourist visa. This visa is issued for purposes such as tourism, medical treatment and family visits.
According to the official fee schedule of the Uganda Directorate of Immigration, the East Africa Tourist Visa allows free movement between Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda for a single payment of 100 USD, which makes it a practical alternative for travellers planning a regional tour. If no regional trip is planned, the standard single-entry tourist visa is usually sufficient and simpler.

Uganda Visa Fee, Length of Stay and Processing Time 2025-2026
According to the official fee schedule of the Uganda Directorate of Immigration, the single-entry tourist visa costs 50 USD. Once approved, this visa grants a stay of up to 3 months (90 days) per visit.
Fees for the multiple-entry visa vary by duration. Because there is a small inconsistency between sources, we list both official figures separately below:
| Visa Type | Validity | Fee (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Single-Entry Tourist Visa | 3 months (90 days) | 50 USD |
| Transit Visa | Short-term transit | 50 USD |
| East Africa Tourist Visa | Between Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda | 100 USD |
| Multiple Entry (6-12 months) | 6-12 months | 100 USD |
| Multiple Entry (24 months) | 24 months | 150 USD or 200 USD (varies by source) |
The fees differ between sources: the Directorate's multiple-entry visa page lists the 24-month multiple-entry visa at 200 USD, while a general announcement from the same institution gives 150 USD for 24 months and 200 USD for 36 months. As these two sources do not fully match, we recommend confirming the current amount on the portal before applying.
On processing time, the Uganda Directorate of Immigration states that the application is reviewed by an immigration officer and decided within 2-3 days. If approved, the Travel Authorization/Approval Letter is sent by email. All applicants are advised to complete their applications at least 10 days before their travel date.
The validity period of the approval letter is also a critical detail: according to the tourist visa page, the Approval Letter is valid for 90 days from the date of approval. If you do not travel within this period, the letter is automatically cancelled and you must apply again.
What Documents Are Required for a Uganda Visa?
The Uganda Directorate of Immigration requests different sets of documents depending on the purpose of the application. For tourist applicants, the main documents listed on the official tourist visa page are:
- A photocopy of the biographical page of a passport with at least 6 months' validity
- Travel plan (tour plan)
- Travel itinerary / flight reservation
- A recent biometric photo
- Hotel reservation or accommodation address (if any)
For business travel, a different combination of documents is required: additional conditions apply, such as an invitation letter stating a full address, the host's immigration status and a photo taken within the last 6 months. For a student visa, an invitation letter written by the school and an acceptance letter are mandatory. For a family visit visa, a document proving the host's immigration status and an invitation letter are requested.
Multiple-entry visa applicants must additionally provide a valid police clearance from Interpol or domestic authorities, a yellow fever vaccination certificate and letters of recommendation from two referees in Uganda; these documents are listed in detail on the Directorate's multiple-entry visa page.
Differences Between Tourist Visa Documents and Business, Student and Family Visit Visa Documents
All four categories share the same basic core: a passport copy, a photo and accommodation details. The points of difference are the invitation letter and the host's status.
An invitation letter is not mandatory for the tourist visa; a tour plan and reservations are enough. For business, student and family visit visas, however, an inviting party (a company, school or family member) and a document showing that party's legal status in Uganda are always required.
How to Apply for the Uganda e-Visa Step by Step
The entire application is carried out through the www.visas.immigration.go.ug portal. The process follows the steps below.
⏱️ Uganda e-Visa Application Steps
1. 1. Access the Portal
Log in to the Immigration Portal, select 'start a new application' and accept the privacy policy/terms.
2. 2. Choose the Visa Category
Select one of the Ordinary, Multiple-Entry, Diplomatic, Transit or East Africa Tourist Visa categories and a subcategory (single entry, 6-12 months, etc.).
3. 3. Fill in the Form
The applicant's personal details are entered completely on the electronic form.
4. 4. Upload Documents
The required documents, such as the passport photo, biometric photo and invitation letter, are uploaded; the system automatically generates an application number.
5. 5. Payment
For applications requiring advance payment, payment is made by MasterCard or Visa.
6. 6. Approval Letter
For applications that do not require an additional payment, the letter is generated automatically after approval and sent by email.
7. 7. Additional Payment (if any)
For categories requiring a top-up payment, the approval letter is issued after payment.
8. 8. Biometric Registration at the Border
On arrival in Uganda, biometric data is taken together with the uploaded documents, payment receipts, approval letter and passport.
Registering on the immigration.go.ug Portal and Filling in the Application Form
On first accessing the portal, the user creates an account and starts the process with the "start a new application" option. Personal details, the purpose of travel and the planned entry and exit dates must be entered completely on the form.
After the documents are uploaded, the system automatically generates a reference number (for example 234790123); this number is used to track the application.
Payment, Approval Letter and Biometric Registration Stage
The payment stage may vary depending on the selected visa category. For some applications a single payment is enough, while for others an additional (top-up) payment is requested after approval.
When approval is granted, the letter is sent by email; the applicant must download and print it. The final step is presenting the documents for biometric registration at the Ugandan border crossing or the immigration office. Entry is not completed without this step.
Common Mistakes During the Application and Reasons for Visa Refusal
The mistakes that increase the refusal rate in Uganda visa applications usually stem not from missing documents but from inconsistency. A mismatch between the travel plan, hotel reservation and passport details is one of the most common problems. The Uganda Directorate of Immigration expects the purpose of travel declared on the application form and the uploaded documents to support each other.
- Insufficient passport validity: the biographical page not being valid for at least 6 months
- Blurred or old photo: a passport photo not taken within the last 6 months
- Missing address or host details in the invitation letter: especially for business, family visit and student visas
- Missing or inconsistent hotel reservation or travel plan
- Documents not in English: all attachments must be submitted in English
- Incomplete or incorrect payment: skipping the second payment in applications that require a top-up payment
What Happens If the Approval Letter Expires?
For a Uganda visa, an approved application does not mean a travel permit; an Approval Authorisation is issued. This document is valid for exactly 90 days from the date of approval. If you do not travel to Uganda within this period, the authorisation is automatically cancelled and becomes invalid.
In this case, the only thing to do is create a new application from scratch on the portal. The old application number or payment record is not transferred to the new application; for this reason, the fee is paid again via immigration.go.ug. This is a detail to watch out for, especially on business trips where the flight schedule may change.
How Do You Reapply If the Visa Is Refused?
When an application is refused, the fee paid is not refunded. To reapply, a new application number must be created on the portal and the reason for refusal must be addressed.
- The missing or problematic document stated in the refusal email should be prepared again
- Inconsistencies between the invitation letter, hotel reservation and travel plan should be resolved
- The fee must be paid again for the new application, because visa fees are non-refundable
Frequent travellers and those going for business are advised to apply for a multiple-entry visa instead of a single-entry one; this avoids the risk of having to apply again and again.
What Is Checked at the Border on Arrival in Uganda?
In Uganda, visas are not issued on arrival; electronic approval must have been obtained before travel. Border officers check three things on entry: the approved Travel Authorization/Visa Approval Letter, the passport and supporting documents.
Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate and Mandatory Biometric Registration
For multiple-entry visa applications, the Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is explicitly included in the list of documents. Citizens of countries exempt from the visa fee are also asked to present this certificate at the point of entry.
After the approval letter is received, the final step of the process is completing biometric registration at the immigration office or the border crossing. At this stage, all documents uploaded by the traveller, payment receipts, the approval letter and the passport are presented together.
⏱️ Steps to Follow on Arrival
1. 1. Have Your Approval Letter Ready
Keep your printed or digital Approval Letter, passport and payment receipts with you.
2. 2. Show Your Yellow Fever Certificate
The vaccination card must be presented to the border officer; otherwise, entry may be refused.
3. 3. Complete Biometric Registration
Fingerprint and photo registration is completed at the border crossing or the immigration office.
Applying on Your Own or With Consultancy Support? A Comparison
The Uganda e-Visa application is technically an online process that anyone can complete alone. However, small mistakes in preparing documents can lengthen the approval process or lead to refusal.
Pros of Applying on Your Own
- No intermediary service fee is paid; only the official visa fee is paid
- The process is entirely under your control, with no need to wait for an intermediary
- As the portal is accessible 24/7, you can apply whenever you like
Cons of Applying on Your Own
- Documents such as the invitation letter and tour plan may be prepared in the wrong format
- As the fee is not refunded in the event of refusal, there is a risk of paying again
- Preparing documents in English and the portal interface may be complicated for some applicants
- You need to keep track of the 90-day validity of the approval letter yourself
Independent consultancy services such as Kolay Seyahat offer document checks and process tracking for a service fee separate from the official visa fee. The official visa fee is always paid directly to the Ugandan government; consultancy firms cannot change this fee or give a guarantee.
Contact Details for the Embassy of Uganda in Ankara and Uganda Visa Procedures in Türkiye
The diplomatic mission representing Uganda in Türkiye is in Ankara. The contact details of the Embassy of Uganda in Ankara are listed on the official website of the Uganda Directorate of Immigration as follows:

Contacting Uganda's Diplomatic Mission in Türkiye
To reach the embassy, use the contact channels above; they are listed on the official page of the Uganda Directorate of Immigration.
In addition, Turkish visa procedures for Ugandan citizens residing in Türkiye are carried out via konsolosluk.gov.tr; this concerns mutual diplomatic relations, not Turkish citizens travelling to Uganda. On the Ugandan side, the Turkish Embassy in Kampala provides the consular support that Turkish citizens may need while in Uganda.
