U.S. Marriage Visa Requirements

Here are the U.S. marriage visa requirements:

• A Turkish citizen and a U.S. citizen must be getting married/be married.
• The marriage must be formalized within the borders of Turkey.
• All documents determined by the Turkish authorities must be collected and declared.
• The legal validity of the marriage contract is mandatory.
• The U.S. citizen must fill out the I-130 form and send it to USCIS. Within this form, the green card process begins, the file is sent to the NVC (National Visa Center), and the person is called for an interview when the NVC sends the file to the consulate.

The requirements for a fiancé(e) visa are as follows:

• The purpose of this visa is to allow the U.S. citizen to bring their fiancé(e) to the U.S. and get married there.
• The fiancé(e) visa application must be made by the U.S. citizen.
• The couple must have met in person at least once within the last 2 years.
• The U.S. citizen must fill out the I-129 form and send it to USCIS. After the person is approved, the file is sent to the NVC, and the U.S. citizen applicant and their spouse are called for an interview.
• The couple must get married within 90 days of arriving in the U.S.
• Both individuals are expected to undergo a health check before the visa and report this with a document.
• The Turkish citizen must prove their financial sufficiency or indicate that they will be sponsored/supported by their fiancé(e) in the U.S.
• Finally, after obtaining the visa, an application for permanent residence must be made to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This requirement is considered essential for completing the settlement and pre-marriage process.

How Long Does a U.S. Marriage Visa Take?

The process of obtaining a U.S. marriage visa may be a bit more challenging compared to other visas. The reason for this is the settlement and residence status mentioned above. Additionally, the workload of the consulates, official holiday periods, and the speed of submitting files to the NVC can also affect the timeline of this procedure. Generally, this process varies between 2.5 - 3 months, but in some cases, it can be extended up to 6 months.

Individuals who want to obtain U.S. citizenship through marriage must have been married to a U.S. citizen for at least 3 years.
