What Can I Do in the West African Country of Benin?

We recommend planning your visit to Benin around the Voodoo festival, which is celebrated by believers of the Voodoo religion every year on January 10. You can visit the Python Temple, which is a museum of the slave trade, and the Portuguese Fort, as well as the "point of no return" beach where slaves were boarded onto ships and the "slave route" to witness the suffering that occurred.

The Voodoo Festival, known as Vodun in West Africa, is celebrated on January 10 in Ouidah by millions of people gathered on the beach. In recent years, due to high participation, technology such as microphones and sound systems have been included in the festival, yet the dances and the purpose of the festival remain on your list.

We highly recommend that you plan step by step before visiting tourist spots like Ganvie village, which can only be reached by wooden boats and is built on the lake by locals escaping slavery. True Africa begins far from the coast that the West cannot reach; arrange a local guide to explore this unique geography and spend time with the tribes.

You can also include Ghana and Togo in your travel itinerary along with Benin.
