So which visa do you apply for?

A visitor visa. Visitor visas cover tourism, visiting relatives, business meetings, short study and similar purposes, and they are issued by ROC overseas missions rather than online. Because the application is made in person at a mission rather than through a portal, the practical questions are where you apply, what the mission charges, and how long you leave for the process.

Taiwan's mission network is listed by the Bureau of Consular Affairs, and the mission handling your application depends on where you live. Confirm the responsible office and its appointment procedure before you prepare documents, because the visa fee is not refundable once an application is filed.

Official Taiwan visa fees

Taiwan publishes its visa fees as a statutory schedule rather than leaving them to individual missions. The Standard Fees for Republic of China (Taiwan) Visas in Foreign Passports sets the following rates.

Two clauses in the same schedule are easy to miss and both affect Cambodian applicants. Reciprocity applies: visa applications made by passport holders from countries that charge a special handling fee to holders of a Taiwan passport are charged on the same basis. And a change of visa type after arrival is not free, since applying in Taiwan for a different visitor visa or a resident visa carries an additional NT$800 or US$24.

How the fee is paid

The currency depends on where you file, and the schedule is specific about it. Applications made in Taiwan are paid in New Taiwan dollars. Applications made at ports of entry in Taiwan are paid in NT or US dollars. Applications made overseas are paid in US dollars.

Local currency is possible but not automatic. If payment is made in a local currency, the amount payable is calculated by the ROC overseas mission as the equivalent of the stipulated US dollar amount, and that conversion has to be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for prior approval. In practice this means you should not assume you can pay in riel at the counter. Ask the mission what it accepts before your appointment.

Note also that the eVisa system, for the nationalities it covers, accepts only MasterCard, Visa and JCB credit cards and does not allow cash payments. That restriction is a useful signal about how Taiwan handles payments generally, even though the eVisa route itself is closed to Cambodian passports.

If you already hold a Travel Authorization Certificate

The withdrawal is not retroactive. According to the National Immigration Agency, Cambodian passport holders who were granted a TAC before or on 1 August 2026 may still enter Taiwan using it, subject to inspection by the agency and on presentation of a valid certificate together with the required supporting documents.

Two practical points follow. First, carry the supporting documents that qualified you for the certificate in the first place, not just the certificate itself, because the entry check is on the whole file. Second, do not plan a return trip on the assumption that you can obtain another certificate; a new application is no longer possible on a Cambodian passport.

Which nationalities still have an online route?

It helps to see the two schemes side by side, because they are frequently confused and Cambodia's position differs in each.

The distinction matters when you search for information. Guidance written for Vietnamese or Indonesian travellers is not transferable to a Cambodian passport, even though the countries are neighbours and the pages look similar.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Applying on the TAC portal anyway. The system will not issue a certificate on a Cambodian passport, and the attempt costs you the days you spend waiting for an answer.
• Assuming the eVisa covers all of Southeast Asia. It is a fixed nationality list plus two narrow group and business channels, none of which includes Cambodia.
• Trusting a dated article. The Cambodia change took effect on 1 August 2026, so anything written before that date is describing a scheme you can no longer use.
• Budgeting only the visa fee. Rush handling adds 50%, a visa obtained on arrival adds NT$800 or US$24, and changing visa type after arrival adds the same amount again.
• Expecting to pay in local currency. Overseas applications are denominated in US dollars, and any local currency equivalent needs prior ministry approval.

Both are worth checking on the day you apply, because Taiwan adjusts eligibility on a rolling basis in line with bilateral agreements and the principle of reciprocity, exactly as the eVisa page states.

Should you handle the application yourself?

A visitor visa application is not complicated in itself. The difficulty for Cambodian applicants is structural rather than clerical: the online routes are closed, the application is filed in person at a mission, and the fee is not refundable if the application is filed with the wrong visa type or an incomplete file.
