How to Renew Your USA Visa?

If you have a valid visa or if it has expired less than 12 months after February 18, 2025, you can renew your USA visa. You can benefit from the appointment exemption by submitting your documents to VFS Global in Istanbul and Ankara by making an appointment through the system. Those residing in different cities must send their documents via UPS Cargo for an additional fee.

Appointments are typically scheduled for an average of 600 days later. The USA visa renewal process takes about 30 days depending on the appointment date. The USA visa renewal process is much shorter and easier than making a new application.

So how?

You must fill out the DS-160 form as if you are making a new application, and pay the application fee by providing accurate statements on the appointment screen. When you proceed with the correct steps, the system will guide you to the renewal process. At this stage, you must include the information from your old visa.

What Are the Requirements for USA Visa Renewal?

For all individuals wishing to renew their USA visa without an interview, the following conditions must be met:

• The individual must be at least 15 years old at the time of their previous visa application. Children under 14 years of age cannot have biometric data taken, so they must make a new application when they turn 14. They cannot benefit from the appointment exemption.
• The type of the new visa application must belong to the same category as your old visa type. For example, someone who received a short-term (6-month valid, tourist B1/B2) visa cannot later apply for a long-term visa.
• There must be no changes in the biographical information on your old visa. For example, a change of name is one of these.
• Your visa expiration must not exceed 12 months.
• The previous visa must not have been stolen or lost. Because it is one of the most important documents during the renewal process. If you lose your passport, you cannot apply for a USA visa renewal. This applies even if you have a valid visa. There may be exceptional circumstances regarding this rule, so we recommend you to get information from our consultants.
• You must not engage in behavior that disrupts public order or does not comply with general rules during your stay in the USA.

Additional Information!

While renewal by mail is possible for some visa types, a Diplomatic Note is required for A and G categories. SEVIS number is required for F, H, J, L, P, and R categories.

For Applicants Renewing 10-Year (B1/B2) Tourist and Business Visas;

Attention: The USA Consulate may request additional documents when evaluating visa applications. This may occur even after the file submission. This applies to all applicant groups.

How Much Is the USA Visa Renewal Fee?

According to the latest information as of August 2, 2025; the fee for renewing a USA tourist visa is 185 USD. Consultancy and operational fees are not included. For detailed pricing, you can find more information in the “Apply Now” menu.

How Many Days Does the USA Visa Renewal Process Take?

The duration of the USA visa renewal process varies depending on the consulate's workload.

When you attend your appointment and submit your documents to VFS Global, your application takes an average of 4 weeks. The total process, including appointment processes, can take up to 10 weeks, and in some cases, much longer. Since your passport will remain at the consulate, you should plan your travel accordingly.

When the process is completed, you must make another appointment to collect your passport from VFS Global and go to collect it by saving the QR code displayed on the screen. You can request your passport to be sent to a different UPS location or your address for an additional fee through the system.

If there are missing or incorrect documents in your file, your passport will be returned. This will be done with a document stating the missing documents.

Can You Renew Your Visa Before It Expires?

Yes, individuals applying for the same visa type can renew their visas with appointment exemption before their USA visa expires.

Are Visa Renewal Procedures Different in Each Country?

How to Make a Visa Renewal Request While in the USA?

To extend your visa duration, apply to USCIS with the I-539 form; otherwise, your legal stay may be jeopardized.

If you are eligible to apply for a USA visa renewal:

• If you came to the USA with a non-immigrant visa,
• If your non-immigrant visa has not yet expired,
• If you have not committed any crimes and there is no situation preventing you from obtaining a visa,
• If you have not violated the conditions of entry into the USA,

What to Pay Attention to in the USA Visa Renewal Process

• You cannot apply for a USA visa renewal if the passport containing your USA visa is lost.
• All details of the DS-160 form must be filled out carefully.
• On the appointment booking screen, the information of your old visa must be entered correctly.
• After the consulate approval, when sending your documents, you must definitely include the passport containing your visa and your new passport if you have one.
• You must pay close attention to where your passport and visa will be delivered after your transactions are completed. Your documents may go to Ankara while you are in Istanbul.
